Vanessa Amorosi performs at One Electric Day on Cockatoo Island

At the Sydney 2000 Olympics Vanessa Amorosi launched herself into international stardom when she sung Absolutely Everybody in front of millions of people.

And now the 38-year-old is ready to sing her way back to the top of the chats with her new album Back To Love.

On Saturday, the singer performed songs from her new album at One Electric Day on Cockatoo Island in Sydney.

She will soon sing in Brisbane and Melbourne with John Farnham, Jon Stevens and James Reyne – with plans to perform overseas.

The Australian singer told The Australian the name was no coincidence and marked her return to pop music after a 10 year hiatus. 

‘I don’t want to stop, I have so much I want to get it out there now. There’s going to be a lot of stuff going on next year and the year after,’ she said.

On top of her new album release, Vanessa said she will be competing to represent Eurovision next year in the selection competition, Australia Decides 2020.

‘To have the opportunity to sing one of my songs on a huge international stage representing Australia would be unforgettable,’ she said. 

The This Is Who I Am singer said she decided to leave pop music in 2011 to pursue gospel music in Los Angeles and quickly found herself absorbed by the new experience.

Vanessa married martial arts instructor Rod Busby in 2017 and the two now raise their three-year-old son Killian together in the U.S.

But she soon found herself wanting to sing pop music again.

The singer said music had changed since the 2000’s during the early stages of modern pop.

 ‘A lot of people feel like hip-hop is an inflection with what’s happened with pop music these days. But actually, to be honest, country now is really affecting pop music,’ she said.
