Scarlett Johansson talks connection with character going through divorce during Romain Dauriac split
She ended her three year marriage with French journalist Romain Dauriac two years ago.
And Scarlett Johansson revealed that she felt a kinship with the character – who happens to be going through divorce – in her most recent role.
The 34-year-old actress was one of the six featured cover stars who were Women In Hollywood Honorees for Elle.

Johansson plays Nicole, a mother who is in the middle of getting a divorce, in the Noah Baumbach written and directed movie Marriage Story set for release in December.
In the fall of 2017, she met with the 50-year-old filmmaker over lunch as he gave her the monologue and she felt an uncanny connection.

Scarlett explained: It was the first piece Noah gave me, and it felt familiar somehow, but not because of what I’d been experiencing then.
‘But maybe because of how I grew up, and the dynamic between my parents—or maybe because I’ve known women who’ve dedicated themselves to their partner’s vision and then come out of this decade-long relationship feeling almost like a ghost.’
She added that she understands where her character is coming from and that being able to show that on the big screen was an enticing opportunity.

The Her actress said: ‘I didn’t hesitate at all, because I knew that I’d have the opportunity to say those words.
‘Noah gave me that monologue, and I was like, “Well, s***, come on.” Am I going to be like, “Nah, I’m good—let some other actor have that”? No way.’
Scarlett finalized her divorce from Romain in September 2017.
They married in Philipsburg, Montana, in 2014 and separated two years later, continuing to raise their daughter Rose, now aged 5, together.
Before Romain, Scarlett was married to her first husband, the actor Ryan Reynolds, from 2008 until 2011.
The heartthrob has since gone on to marry actress Blake Lively and have two children with her.
She is now engaged to SNL star Colin Jost.
Elle’s Women In Hollywood issue is set to hit newsstands on October 22.
