Rival fan throws knife at Millonarios star during ugly scenes in Colombian top-flight match
A Colombian top-flight clash was marred by ugly scenes as a rival Medellin fan threw a knife towards a Millonarios player.
At Medellin’s Atanasio Girardot stadium on Saturday, a supporter threw a blunt object from one of the stands onto the playing field, where David Macalister Silva was standing.
Fortunately, the fan who threw the knife missed and nobody was injured in Medellin.
It was launched on the pitch after the Millonarios’ players celebrated their second goal in injury-time as the visitors went on to record a narrow 2-1 victory.
Goals from Juan David Perez Benitez and Hansel Orlando Zapata Zape wrapped up the victory for Millonarios.
Following the final whistle, sources from Millonarios claimed the weapon fell close to Silva on Saturday night.
Silva then handed the knife to the referee, Carlos Ortega, who then gave it to the fourth official to take safely away from the pitch.
According to reports in Colombia, a minority of Medellin supporters have been in trouble previously this season, with some fighting with machetes before their clash against rivals Atletico Nacional.
