As frontman of The Smiths, he’s one of Britain’s most successful and iconic musicians.

And Morrissey, 59, made sure people knew he was in town as he stopped by a supermarket in Hale Barns, Cheshire on Thursday afternoon with a friend.

The singer showed off his mini-convertible’s custom-made bumper sticker which reads: ‘I only swerve for Morrissey’.

Morrissey cut a casual figure for the day, donning a royal blue jacket with a dark grey hoodie and navy jeans.

Sporting a cap and a pair of tinted shades, he chatted to his friend as they packed the boot with groceries before taking off.

Morrissey has a busy year ahead of him as he is preparing for a seven-night stint on Broadway in May.

The rocker will play the Lunt-Fontanne Theater from May 2-11, following a long line of celebrities who have performed on Broadway.

Performers whose music has recently been featured on Broadway include Cher and Donna Summer.

Morrissey will also release a new album this year called California Son made up of cover songs from artists like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Dionne Warwick.

The singer’s management cited ‘logistical problems beyond our control’ when breaking the news to fans.

A statement on the singer’s Facebook page said: ‘Due to logistical problems beyond our control, the UK/European Morrissey concerts scheduled for July will be postponed.

‘We deeply regret any inconvenience to the fans and promise to reschedule UK and European dates as soon as possible.

It came after Morrissey was criticised by some for expressing support for far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

The singer said Robinson’s jailing for breaking contempt laws by filming outside a court was an example of how Britain’s biggest political parties are against freedom of expression.

It’s very obvious that Labour or the Tories do not believe in free speech,’ he told Tremr. ‘I mean, look at the shocking treatment of Tommy Robinson.’
