Mesut Ozil’s absence from Arsenal’s squad for the game against West Ham on Saturday summed up his position in Unai Emery’s thinking.
The Spaniard clearly does not trust the German in the biggest games, and as Sportsmail reported on Monday morning, he is keen for him to leave in the January window.
After the defeat at the London Stadium, Emery said: ‘The players who were here were the ones who deserved to be at this match.

The German has been in and out of Emery’s thinking and missed the match against West Ham
‘Sometimes he is helping us, at other moments not helping us because of injury or because maybe the match is not for him.’
But £350,000-a-week midfielder Ozil is clearly not keen to leave the Emirates any time soon.
Judging by his post on Instagram, he is even trying to send a message to Emery about extending his absence from the team.
Emery is also keen to let Ozil go in the January transfer window as he looks for new players
Ozil can be seen working out in the gym at the club’s London Colney training ground alongside two coaches.
And he captioned up the image: ‘No matter what… put in the work’.
That hints he will continue to work hard whether or not Emery selects him for the first-team going forward.
Given Arsenal’s struggles in east London, Ozil may hope for a return to the side when the Gunners host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
