MAFS star Michael Brunelli shaves his head for charity live on TV

He vowed to get rid of his trademark long hair in a bid to raise donations for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.

And sticking to his word, Michael Brunelli looked very nervous as Martha Kalifatidis completely shaved his head on live TV during Channel 9’s Gold Telethon on Monday.

The Married At First Sight star broke into a sweat, as his ‘wife’ struggled to hack through his thick ponytail before going on to shave off his remaining hair.

Ahead of the big moment, Michael revealed he hasn’t had a completely shaven head in eight years.

He seemed a little reluctant to say goodbye to his locks and had actually disappeared from set just 20 seconds before his hair cut was due to get underway.

Presenter David Campbell joked: ‘[Michael] had to be dragged back to the chair by Martha to cut these luscious locks.’

Asked how she was feeling about finally chopping off her boyfriend’s hair, Martha said she was ‘so excited’ and joked she is a ‘professional’ with the scissors.

She then tied Michael’s hair into a ponytail and attempted to cut through it with clippers, telling him: ‘Oh my god, babe. This ponytail is so thick!’

Switching to a pair of scissors, she battled with Michael’s hair and eventually removed his ponytail, that will now be sent off and used to make wigs for children.

Michael looked visibly shocked to be holding his ponytail in his hand, but managed to laugh it off while Martha tackled the rest of his hair.

Ahead of having his head shaved, Michael had said in an interview with 9Honey that he ‘didn’t hesitate’ to sign up for the challenge, as it’s one close to his heart.

The reality star is a primary school P.E teacher and insisted it is a ‘dream come true’ to help raise funds for sick children, as his world ‘revolves around kids’.

He said: ‘I know there are many children who aren’t able to enjoy the amazing experiences that come with being at school every day.

‘By cutting off my hair, I hope it helps the sick kids receive the best medical treatment possible, enabling them to return to school happy and healthy.’

Martha has made no secret over her desire to cut off her partner’s hair and joked during an episode of MAFS that she was keen for Michael to get the chop.

She was often seen giving him style advice on the show and said: ‘Next thing we’re doing is putting clippers to it and it’s coming off!’
