US rapper Childish Gambino’s politically charged anthem “This is America” continues to be a shape-shifting song as it has inspired another remake: this time in the Arab world.
Not long after Gambino dropped the smash hit single that’s now garnered over 350 million views, Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, aka Falz, did a cover to capture contemporary Nigerian society titled ‘This is Nigeria’.
Following the impact, Dubai-based rapper I-NZ decided to create his own version, reflecting on the hardships of his home country, Iraq.
“This is Iraq” by I-NZ has garnered over 1.7 million views — and plenty of global attention as he brings the plight of his war-ravaged country to the fore.
I-NZ, a 33-year-old Iraqi-Kiwi whose real name is Majid, said he hoped to use Gambino’s song to send a message to the world about what has happened to his country of heritage since the US invasion of 2003.

The rapper, who isn’t benefiting financially from the project, says he would like to see Childish Gambino’s comment on it.
