A former Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, has been pictured in London with President Muhammadu Buhari.
This comes amid heightened speculations that the former Akwa Ibom State governor is perfecting plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after a breakdown in relations between him and incumbent Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla, had on Saturday announced that the Senator, who is the minority leader in the Red Chamber, will be formally received into the folds of the APC on Thursday, August 9, ChannelsTV writes.
Obono-Obla said there will be an APC Rally at Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Abasi Ibom State on Thursday to receive the former governor.
Akpabio’s visit to President Buhari comes in the wake of a gale of defections from the ruling APC as many federal lawmakers announced their defection to the PDP.
Senate President Bukola Saraki and three APC governors, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Abdul Fatah Ahmed of Kwara State and had also ditched the APC for PDP.
The APC has threatened to challenge their defections, particularly the seat of the senate president which they want declared vacant.
